Lanie Fern has a bachelor's degree in Spanish Secondary Education & TESOL. She taught grades 7-12 for five years before getting an M.A. in Linguistics and pivoting to teaching university. Though she has a passion for education, she has gone back to her first love - music.
She has always made playlists for parties where the guests would compliment her and ask for a copy. Getting into DJ'ing was a natural transition that she had by chance put on her bucket list. As a DJ and music producer, Lanie draws her inspiration from her travels and experience living in such far-flung places as the Pacific Islands and the Middle East.
In 2018, she started playing house music for private parties, boat parties and a club anniversary in Doha, Qatar. Since she returned to the US, she’s gotten more into deep house, world beats, and Latin music. From 2019, she has played for bars, restaurants, corporate events and more in San Francisco, Palm Springs, Washington DC and northern Virginia. Although Lanie is a niche DJ, she is extremely versatile. Her professionalism coupled with knowledge of music from the 1950s until the present has made her a hit with a diverse audience, entertaining crowds of any size.
