He played trombone with the Beijing (China) Symphony and sung opera in his past, from which he acquired a wide range of classical music knowledge. He started his disc jockey career while overseas with the U.S. diplomatic corps, bringing a wide range of cultural experience and music exposure with him to this company. His administrative knowledge and proven track-record transfer admirably to the DJ arena, where his time management, logistic, and coordination skills have, time and again, made for extremely happy customers, more than one of whom have claimed that Russ single-handedly made their wedding ceremony or reception a smashing success.
